I watched this video because of CN Blue's Minhyuk, but I fell in love with their oh-so-sweet dresses and the doll-like eyes look created with false eyelashes!

C.N. Blue's Songs

By elizawoods · November 25, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

In my last post I talked about this fabulous new Korean band, C.N. Blue, and its members, and here, I'm going to talk about some of the songs that the members have composed themselves. What I like about this band is that not only do they play their own instruments, they write some of their own songs too! That, to me, is cool.

The 1st song is Love Revolution, written by Yong Hwa. This is my favourite C.N. Blue song as it's just so upbeat and cheerful!

<object height="385" width="480" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/VRjLLfDYVWA?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> <param name="data" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VRjLLfDYVWA?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VRjLLfDYVWA?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> </object>

This live performance is especially cool as they play around with the bass and guitars a bit before going into the song proper. Check out Jung Shin on the bass in the 1st few seconds! This song somehow gives me the vibes of a youthful version of Suede, a British alternative rock band.

The next song, Never Too Late, was wriiten by Jong Hyun.

<object height="385" width="480" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/NYN1Q2sqNUw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> <param name="data" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NYN1Q2sqNUw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NYN1Q2sqNUw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> </object>

As compared to "Love Revolution", this song gives me more of a Japanese rock band vibe.

Last but not least, Sweet Holiday was written by Min Hyuk.

<object height="385" width="640" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/dFW53sGLIbE?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> <param name="data" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dFW53sGLIbE?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dFW53sGLIbE?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> </object>

As expected from Min Hyuk, it has a very youthful vibe. Check out Min Hyuk at the back singing along to the song! So cute. I couldn't find any longer performances of this song, so I wonder if the song is actually this short?

My Favourite Korean Band! C.N. Blue!

By elizawoods · November 23, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

I wanted to write about a relatively new Korean band that I discovered quite recently. They are a band which debuted in Japan before they came out in their home country, Korea. And they are C.N. Blue!

Introducing the members:

Credit: Photo from last.fm, uploaded by user mistermagius (from ELLE girl magazine)

From left to right: Lee Jong Hyun, Kang Min Hyuk, Jung Yong Hwa, Lee Jung Shin

The above is one of my favourite photos of them that I've seen on the internet because i think the cool white and pastel colours suit them well! There is a lot of information on them like thier birthday, blood type etc on the internet so I won't go into the details. Instead, I will share my opinion on the members and some of their songs.

Jung Yong Hwa (Leader, guitar, vocals, rap)

I first got to know about C.N. Blue when I watched the Korean show "He's Beautiful" or "You're Handsome". In the show, Yong Hwa plays the role of Shin-woo, a bassist in the fictatious band A.N.Jell. I felt really bad about the character Shin-woo because he was so selfless and giving but in the end the girl didn't like him, so I looked for another show to watch. That's how I found out about Yong Hwa and the band!

To  me, Yong Hwa is very charismatic on stage. He seems to change into a different person, very confident, very charming, whether he's singing, rapping or playing the guitar. I've noticed that he plays the accoustic guitar more whereas the other guitarist, Jong Hyun, plays the electric guitar more. (Just my observation.) Vocals-wise, his voice is more strong and "rough" whereas Jong Hyun's voice is more fine.

Lee Jong Hyun (Guitar, vocals)

From some videos I've watched of him, he seem to be a pretty laid-back person. In an interview he said he wanted to laze around at home and eat mandarin oranges (that sounds like me, lol!). On stage, he's most charming when playing the guitar with a concentrated look on his face. His voice has a soothing and smooth quality to it. I think he would do ballads very well.

Kang Min Hyuk (Drums)

Min Hyuk looks so cute! He has a very boyish and endearing look to him, so much so that i thought he was the youngest of the band members (later I realised he isn't, Jung Shin is. I like the way he sings along while playing the drums, even when no one else hears him. Also, he always plays with a smile :). I enjoy watching him do tricks with the drumsticks too! Pity the camera seldom focuses on him.

Lee Jung Shin (Bass, rap)

I've always felt an affinity to the bassists in bands because i like listening to the bass and enjoy the way the bass notes resonate through me. Jung Shin is my personal favourite because he's so funny! I watched him on "WGM", a variety show and whenever he appeared, the atmosphere would suddenly become comedic. The way he's a "chingoo" (Korean for "friend") to everyone is funny too. On stage he shows his serious side and I've heard some seriously cool bass playing from him when he plays live!

In my next post I'll share some of their songs and my impression of them.

The Body Shop Baked to Last Blusher and Eye Colour

By elizawoods · November 15, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

I know I'm very slow in posting this, but I had been eyeing these for a long time before I bought them. The original prices in Euros were just too much for me! So I waited patiently, until one day, I received an sms saying there would be 30% off all makeup for "Love Your Body" members! (I'm a member.) Woohoo!

So I rushed down and grabbed these beauties:

Blush Shade 02 in Coral and eye colour 08 in Amethyst.

I usually favour blushers in cool pink shades, but I already had 2 cool pink shade blushers with me in the Netherlands, so I wanted something slightly wamer to brighten up my complexion. Coral is a perfect shade for giving me a healthy look, warm but not too much! The light orangey shade makes for a very good highlighter on my cheekbones, it's shimmery but not frosty. It makes me look like I have a glow! (very important when the day is rather dark and gloomy and my sun-starved skin is getting paler by the day.) I've been using it almost everyday since I got it.

Now the eye shadow, it's a very pretty purple shade but it's more suitable for the night, I feel, so I haven't been using it much. I was tempted by the pink one but pink eye shadows tend to give me a swollen eye look so... I decided against it.

I can't really remember the price now as I got them quite some time ago, but I'm guessing around 12 euros for the blusher and 10 for the eyeshadow, after the one day only discount. I strongly recommend the blusher if you can still find them, as for the eyeshadow, only if there's a colour you really, because I don't think the formula is anything special in terms of colour intensity or smoothness.

Rain and Wind

By elizawoods · November 11, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

I said in my last post in September that the weather was disgusting then. I was WRONG. The weather in November is truly disgusting. It has been raining heavily and the winds have been so strong today. Definitely NOT one of my favourite things. The weather has been so dark and gloomy, and rainy, for weeks now. I thought Singapore was rainy but the rain here really has stamina!

To think I was telling myself last night," I will go to the gym tomorrow even if it's raining." But when I woke up today.... one look out of my window told me "no way!".

I had read about "window rattling in their frames" before in many books but it was only when I came to the Netherlands that I truly understood the term. The windows were really rattling hard in their frames the whole day today!
